Yes Or No: The Vote Of A Nation

Yes or No is the kind of two horse race that Aussies like. Think of the lasting popularity of Two-Up. Yes Or No: The Vote Of A Nation. There is a decision to be made about a contest and just a couple of possibilities. What could be better? Yes or No will decide the fate of others – so no skin off my nose mate. Yes or No is a binary question – whatever that means. Across the nation, from Bruny Island to Cape York, Australians will be casting their vote for an Aboriginal say in their future handling. A referendum about the Australian Constitution – whatever that says anyway. It is a compulsory vote by the way.

Rory McIlroy Used Stoicism To Start Winning Again

It did not surprise me to discover that Rory McIlroy used Stoicism to start winning again. In 2018, apparently Rory consulted this timeless philosophy to overcome his performance slump in golf. I know myself through my research into Marcus Aurelius’ Stoic treatise “Meditations” that it provides a powerful body of knowledge to call upon. In writing, “The Stoic Golfer: Finding Inner Peace & Focus on the Fairway” I was impressed at just how relevant the information was in relation to playing competitive golf. The battlefield and the golf course share distinct characteristics well worth examining in a Stoic light.

Learning To Take Lightly From Golf

I have been learning to take lightly from golf of late. What do I mean by this statement? The game of golf, as many of us well know, is a myriad of highs and lows, demanding a plethora of skills and a Stoic sensibility. Over the last few years I have been going at it like a bull in a China shop. Playing competitively up to 5 times a week and practising several times per week as well. I rebuilt my swing after copious lessons and YouTube video consultations. My intention was to become the best darned golfer I could be. End result I burned out and became mentally fractured. Now, I am reappraising my approach to golf and have taken a few steps back in a bid to regain my love for the sport.

Jason Day Deflates on Day Three at the Wells Fargo

Down came the rain and washed poor Jason Day away. Tough weather conditions proved to be the undoing for Day after he led the tournament for the first two days. We were all hoping and praying that he would go on with the job and get a win for the first time in 4 years. Whether it was his new swing not holding up in the inclement conditions or back related reasons it was an ugly day for Jason. The end result was that Jason Day deflates on day three at the Wells Fargo shooting 9 over to leave him at 1 under.

How To Swing A Golf Club

Is it the eternal golfing question? How to swing a golf club? Many golfers battle with and ponder upon this question for their entire golfing lives. However, I should not paint such a potentially depressing situation because the challenge of golf is what hooks us all in the long run. It is the shear difficulty of the game that has grown men and women devoting so much enjoyable time to cracking the code of the golf swing. We all secretly love the fact that this game is so darn hard. If it was easy we wouldn’t bother.

How To Play Golf

It may come as no surprise that ‘how to play golf’ is the most widely used keyword search in golfing terms. More people Google this question than any other when it comes to golf related searches on the web. Thus, this truly is the starting point for many on their golfing journeys. For those of us who love the game and play often it is useful to ponder our own beginnings in this great pastime. I noticed quite a few beginners on the practice range at my local golf club the other day.

My Greatest Moment in Golf

“My greatest moment in golf was on holiday in Iceland because I went back to see family. I was playing Geysir Golf Course and was on the par 3 Litli Geysir. It was about 160m to the flag. I could see the famed geysers off in the distance, steaming like an ice giant with bad breath on a winter’s day. I struck my 5 iron crisply and watched the ball rise in the air heading toward the green. It was a well struck shot. The hope was making party in my chest. I watched the ball strike the green and roll forward. It rolled and suddenly disappeared into the hole. I had never had the ace before. It was the most special moment for me. It was furðulegur!”

The Selfish Golfer

I was listening to the commentator share a story about South African golfer Brandon Grace choosing to play in the Zurich Classic instead of skipping it for his son’s birthday. The selfish golfer label immediately sprang to mind. There would be a hell of a lot of wives and partners who would agree with the condemnation of those individuals who choose to play golf rather than be there for their responsibilities and loved ones. Golf can be a divisive pastime for families and relationships. Playing golf is very much a solo pursuit and rarely fits in with lives built on shared responsibilities.

Why Do Entertainers & Rockstars Love the Game of Golf?

Golf was a game played by robotic old men at country clubs in the suburbs. This was my impression of the game when I was growing up. I loved footy, the big hits, the high marks, and the fast pace of play. Golf was not on my radar. I was into Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, and hard passionate rock music. I painted my entire bedroom black with one feature wall covered in tin foil. Now, I am older and my former heroes, those wild men of pop, play golf. Why do entertainers and rockstars love the game of golf?

How To Get Better At Golf

So, you have, like many others before you, been bitten by the golf bug. This bite seems at first to be no big thing, a minor scratch or sting, but before you know it you are buying clubs, buggy, balls, golfing outfits and lots more. You are down at the local municipal course or a working person’s club and swinging away with gay abandon at any small sphere that comes your way. Suddenly, mastering this game becomes strangely important in your life. If you can only get that ball in the air. If you can just get that drive out there down the fairway, If you can make that putt things will be heading in the right direction. This is the golf conundrum that all golfers face for evermore. How to get better at golf soon becomes a pressing question.

Are Aussies Cursed At The Masters?

We have all heard about the curse of Tutankhamun’s tomb. How Howard Carter and others involved died horrible deaths after entering the pharaoh’s burial chamber. Well, are Aussies cursed at the Masters? I don’t know how Cameron Smith is feeling post Masters 2022 but I have had the stuffing knocked out of my expectations on the highest golfing stage and I was only watching the bloody thing. There have been a succession of unfortunate failures by Australian golfers at the Masters for decades. Greg Norman in 1996 can still upset my stomach just thinking about that train wreck on the back nine at Augusta National.

Finally, My Ping 7 Wood Arrived

Finally, my Ping 7 wood arrived after a 9 month wait. It was hard to believe that it had actually happened. My wait has been hard and long. Those who have had similar experiences will know what I mean. I had gone through a number of recognisable stages during the painful process. The 5 stages of cheated consumption I call them. Firstly, there is denial, then anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. You initiate a consumer choice and order your desired golf club through the pro shop at my local golf club. You are obviously excited about your purchase and a denial of any possible problem is your default position.
