Golf is a game with a rich history of class consciousness. A game played by masters and their servants or caddies. Golf originated in Scotland and then, England, but soon emigrated, as a pastime, to the new world in America and Australia. Games like golf were, in the 19C and early 20C, for those with the necessary wealth to indulge in recreational activities. The masters of these colonial times were partial to the odd spot of golf. Sometimes I think that you just don’t care! I mean, the amount of time and energy I put into you. Not to mention the money. I give, give, give and give more. You take, take, take and take me to the cleaners. What kind of bloody relationship is this anyway? I don’t know how much more of this I can handle. Hell’s bells, the one way nature of this whole thing, just makes me sick. What about me, it isn’t bloody fair? I cannot remember the last time I came home with something I could count on. Sunday At The Masters
They say that green is the colour of envy and there are a lot of envious professional golfers who covert a green jacket. There is talk of the past champions walking a little taller around Augusta National. Neither Scottie Scheffler or Cameron Smith have a green jacket or have won a major in their brief golfing careers. Tiger has five of course. Rory doesn’t have one. The 2022 leaderboard on Sunday at the Masters contained no past champions in contention to win. Some are talking about a changing of the guard at the pointy end of tournament golf.

Tiger Crucified On The Master’s Greens
A four putt and X3 three putts for Tiger Wood’s third round at the 2022 Masters golf tournament. The brave and sterling effort by the x5 time former champion froze in the chilly conditions at Augusta National on Saturday. Tiger crucified on the Master’s greens to give it a suitably dramatic connotation. Scottie Scheffler led through the most part of the day by 5 shots, looking a cut above the rest of the pack. Cameron Smith continued to hit great shots and made more putts to hold down second place with a fine round of golf in challenging conditions.

They say a day is a long time in golf. Day 2 at the Masters for Cameron Smith proved that saying. Smith putted like a blindman on Friday, with apologies to the visually impaired. The young man who made 8 birdies on Thursday could not find the hole it seemed. Commentators told us that it was windy out on the course and challenging conditions for the competitors. Scottie Scheffler, the new number one golfer, soon established a 3 shot lead for much of the second day. The coverage was extremely Tiger focused, as we watched Tiger struggle and then fightback to stay in touch with the leaderboard.

Watching The Masters
Watching the Masters golf tournament on my TV it struck me just how much improvements in broadcasting and screen technologies have transformed the viewing experience. Back in the day, which was not that long ago, watching golf on TV was a grainy, blurry, optically challenged show. You could not see the golf ball, for the most part, either on the greens or in flight. The viewer had to use their imagination and the flattened images of Augusta National gave no real indication of what the course was like. Now, we can see the steep slopes and perception of the course geography is dramatically enriched.

Listening to Brandel Chamblee, the possibility of Tiger Woods playing at the Masters was akin to a miracle in this non-religious age we live in. Tiger Woods: Miracle at the Masters? Will we see the greatest golfer of the modern age tee it up in the first major of the year? The golf media is blowing more hot air into this story than a Dutch oven with a bad case of indigestion. To the naked eye Tiger looks in great shape, with his upper body more buff than usual. Of course, the hilly geography of Augusta will be a test over four days for a gammy leg.

JJ Spaun wins Valero Texas Open to become the ninth first time victor on the PGA tour this year. Looking and named more like a villain in some bad ass movie, JJ outplayed a lot of higher profile players in this tournament. He played the better golf on the final day, putting everything in, when he had to. Spaun pitched in a few times throughout the championship to shoot 13 under and post a winning score. Diminutive in size but with plenty of game to conquer a challenging golf course JJ got the job done when it mattered most.

Professional golf tours are being exploited for Sportswashing purposes in the Arabian gulf states. There is too much tournament golf played in the Middle East. These autocratic regimes are buying dates on the rota to promote their nations as golfing destinations. The local citizens of places like Saudi Arabia and Qatar do not play golf. Watching the televised coverage of these championships you do not see any indigenous locals attending the golf. There is next to no atmosphere and a feeling of falseness emanating from these tournaments. Sure, the players love the money – just ask Phil Mickelson.
