At the golf course, I all too frequently meet the monoculture rendition of what it means to be Australian. The One Nation version of it, now gaining in renewed popularity, according to some in the polls. On the tee, older blokes share a joke at the expense of anyone or anything appearing to be too different in their view. A strange name for instance or someone from outside the defined norms of their little world. It can be like returning to the school yard, where the mob picked on the outliers. In this society, you can be from somewhere else but you must assimilate by acting like a true blue Aussie. A bit like the smarter kids at school who had to act dumb to fit in with the cooler ones.
Multiculturalism Downunder & Enjoying The Good Life
You know, I was at a new café, just opened in Bribie Island, the other day. The place was packed and there was an air of excitement buzzing about the seated patrons. I looked around the room and noticed that the majority of the dozen or so people working at the café were non-Anglos. Knowing the political bent of the denizens of Bribie, I thought to myself, these café customers would be hard pressed to get served if the anti-immigration stance of One Nation actually achieved a parliamentary advantage. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. We only have a burgeoning food scene downunder because of multiculturalism.
One Nation Monoculture Will Be Bad For Australia
Pauline Hanson used to run a fish and chip shop prior to her parliamentary reinvention. Now, there is nothing to knock about this British culinary offering, when it is done well. However, I don’t want to eat Anglo-fare every night of the week and we don’t have the climate for that diet, anyways. Pies, pastries, and deep fried foods clog up the old arteries if you partake too often. It is not all about food, of course, but what a culture brings to table is pretty important. You eat a delicious kebab and it puts a smile on your face. Maybe it helps you see beyond the fear of Turkish and other Middle Eastern folk. The same with Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indian and countless other cultures enriching these shores of this great southern land. In my experience, you will find that the vast majority of these migrants just want to make a good life for their families.
US Inspired Racial Paranoia Infecting Right Wing Parties
One Nation is importing American paranoia to our country. Feeding off Gina Rinehart, the billionaire mining magnate, who has decamped to the United States, this right wing party is drumming up hate and resentment. White Americans are terrified of a multiracial America. They are scared that the Chinese are surpassing them economically. These denizens of the richest place on earth are crying poor. It is disgusting really. The only people fleecing them are their own billionaires and oligarchs. But it is always easier to punch down and blame the poor immigrant and refugee. Right wing political parties have been orchestrating this fear of others for centuries. He or she looks different, so they must be bad. Negativity and talking down your country is the MO of these MAGA and One Nation operatives. Sucking in losers and all those with a bone to pick. Promoting the monoculture rendition of what it means to be Australian.
Driving A Big Note Ute
I look around on the roads and see all these pick up trucks. More imported redneck American culture on our streets. The Australian government gives you a generous tax break for these supposed work vehicles. In truth, many of these overblown pickup trucks are recreational. A lot of them are, actually, made in China. So much for the reality of donning American culture and values. These dual cabin Utes on steroids are a fashion statement, the muscle cars of this generation, and they take up unnecessary space on the basis of the vanity of their drivers. They want to appear big and tough with all this metal around them. In reality, it is all window dressing, as the exteriors are more show than hard matter. I ask myself what are these people frightened of in their lives that they have to surround themselves with so many layers of exterior protection? Little people inside monstrous vehicles.

While it’s hard to determine an exact cost on the FBT exemptions afforded to commercial vehicles, Mr Denniss suggests the system is being abused – citing the number of utes on Australian roads as proof.
“The exact cost of the FBT exemption is unclear. But given Australia has at least 1.5 utes for every tradie – and that includes jobs like bakers, rarely known for their utes – the effective subsidy is probably considerable,” he said.
Among the changes the Institute called for is to demand the Productivity Commission “Do all it could to reduce the number of enormous utes on our narrow streets.”

I wonder about folk who carry around Aussie flags and try to steal the national identity for their own far right agenda. What have these individuals ever done for their country? Who the f*** are they? Go get a life and leave our flag alone! Neo-Nazis are involved in these street marches and most Australians do not want these scumbags in their lives.
