Watching Tiger Woods attempt to win his first US Amateur Championship in 1994, as a gangly 18-year-old, in an old YouTube video, I was struck by a few things. Firstly, the preponderance of quirky American names in golf. Tiger was down by 4 holes after 26 in a 36-hole final to Trip Kuehne.

I Am Addicted To Golf

I sat in the none too comfy chair, opposite the Doc, fidgeting like a schoolboy outside the Principal’s office. Looking around the room I could see a framed certificate on the wall from some medical college. There was, also, a painting of something that might have been a scene from a horror movie. Strange thing to have on the wall of a psychiatrist, in my opinion. I was here to get help for my problem. My gaze fell upon a framed photograph of some sort of ink explosion in grainy shades of black and white. The Doc calmly consulted his notes in the chair opposite me. The air in the room seemed scented with pine fragrance or some such artificial odour. The Doc was a non-descript sort of fellow, around fiftyish I guessed, dressed in grey slacks and a mauve sweater. His head was crowned with receding silver locks. Glasses sat on the bridge of his nose and peered down at the pages he held in his hands. Time seemed to stand still. The unknown was all around me. I took another breath and exhaled a little too loudly. What would unfold I wondered. Where would this take me.

Are Aussies Cursed At The Masters?

We have all heard about the curse of Tutankhamun’s tomb. How Howard Carter and others involved died horrible deaths after entering the pharaoh’s burial chamber. Well, are Aussies cursed at the Masters? I don’t know how Cameron Smith is feeling post Masters 2022 but I have had the stuffing knocked out of my expectations on the highest golfing stage and I was only watching the bloody thing. There have been a succession of unfortunate failures by Australian golfers at the Masters for decades. Greg Norman in 1996 can still upset my stomach just thinking about that train wreck on the back nine at Augusta National.

Identity politics and social values are the main game these days. OMG the sky is going to fall in. In this partisan realm complaints about there being too many coloured faces on TV and LGBTQIA folk making too much noise are legion. Uppity women talking about sexual harassment and such like make their viewer’s blood boil – which is the whole idea for Fox. Getting their audience riled up keeps eyeballs on them and advertising rates going up for their revenue.Popularizing Poisonous Issues For Political GainThe politics of grievance is all about popularizing these causes for the benefit of candidates and the party. The party promoting these grievances doesn’t need positive policies. They just bang on about how the other side is to blame for the problem.
