To see Tiger stalking the fairways once more, this time dressed in white, was like a return to former years in golf. Tiger Woods returns to PGA Tour at Riviera Country Club in LA. Perhaps for a moment we could forget about LIV and the predations forced upon the men’s tour by greed and Saudi Arabian oil money. Hey, Tiger looked in much better shape with the limp barely noticeable. He hit it pretty good too. Sure he shanked one on the 18th but the recovery shot was sublime. For a player who hadn’t played at this level for some time he put in a solid performance.
“The 15-time major winner fired five birdies and five bogeys through his first 17 holes. But he hit an uncharacteristic shank from the 18th fairway that sprayed far right behind a tree. “My back was spasming the last couple of holes and it was locking up. I came down and it didn’t move and I presented hosel first and shanked it,” Woods said, adding it had “definitely been a while” since he had shanked a ball.”
Hey, I wish I had that back spasm excuse every time I hit a shank!
Riviera Country Club A Favourite for Tiger & Many PGA Players
Riviera seems to be the favourite track for many PGA players out there. Adam Scott told us that at his pre-tournament presser, as did a host of other notables. Jason Day seems to be coming back into some good form with several top ten finishes and another good start here. He is looking younger sans the beard. Cam Davis fired an opening 65 to be right up there on the leader board. Will Zalatoris got the opening hole in one and won electric cars for himself and his caddy.
Tiger & PGA Tour Like Hollywood’s Golden Years
Golf at the pointy end of the men’s game is a fantasy business for the great majority of amateur golfers. The shots that these guys hit consistently are way outside of our experience. Therefore, following the exploits of golfers on the PGA Tour is akin to Hollywood. We all aspire to being able to hit it like the pros but our games are so far backward – we are like inbreds in them hills. We dream about doing amazing stuff on the golf course but then wake up, hopefully not next to our sister. Next time you are out on the course and about to play a shot pay attention to what happens. It might just be a reality slap in the face. Dreaming about s*** is not going to make it happen, that only comes through doing the work.
Yer Dreaming Buddy!
Tiger Woods is back, looking older and less like a god of golf striding the fairways. Will he climb leaderboards once again or is that just fanciful wishful thinking? Many folk remember the pop groups from their teenage heydays. For a lot of us older golfers Tiger is a bit like that. He just might have been the reason many of us took up the game in the first place. Tiger in white was somewhat like a dream figure out there – a ghost of from golf’s past.
