The AI Transition Will Be Like A Bad Golf Swing

What do I mean by that? The AI transition will be like a bad golf swing.  If you are a golfer you may know what bad golf swings feel like. One of the most common is the OTT golf swing. In this swing, the player rushes everything and attacks the golf ball from the top of the backswing. The resultant ball flight is an almighty slice to the right for most golfers. The important thing to comprehend here is a swing that gets out ahead of everything and gives the body no time to catch up. The uptake of artificial intelligence (AI) by corporations will see massive job losses, as it replaces white collar roles in firms and institutions. Like a bad golf swing, the AI transition will look really bad for millions of workers who have lost their employment.

Automation, AI & Too Much Convenience In Our Cities

You know, the older I get the more I realise that the essence of a job is the people you work with. What I mean by this, is the people you come into contact with through your role. It might be customers, clients, co-workers and all those that enrich what you do for a living. If this is true and you agree with my evaluation, why are we replacing human beings with machines? Who is making this call and what is their motivation? Cities are for people and all the things inside our cities are really there for all of us. If everything gets automated, as we are seeing starting to happen now. Cinemas, supermarkets, Maccas and everything else are featuring automated facilities instead of human beings serving you. What is the point of it all? Does anyone realise that convenience is going too far?

Bad Golf & A Dead Urban Life Is Done From The Top

Returning to that bad golf swing analogy and hitting from the top. The AI and automation decisions are all coming from the top and not from us in the real world. Sure, speeding things up and making stuff more efficient is good, but it reaches a level of diminishing returns. If all of our shops and recreational facilities become automated by robots and AI, sans human beings, we are losing more than we gain from the experience. Perhaps, it is predicated on the model of families going out to the movies and for a feed, who are happy to stay in their own little bubble throughout the experience. But lots of folk fly solo in cities these days and maybe don’t want to be isolated in that bubble when shopping and going about their business in the city. Mostly, the AI/automation transition is about reducing labour costs. It is bottom line economics for companies to make more for their shareholders. The AI transition will be like a bad golf swing.

Automation Is Killing Our Cities

I went to the cinema with my daughter to see a movie. I had not been in a while. Hardly anybody works in these cinema complexes anymore, as they are filled with machines for purchasing movie tickets. A small plastic bottle of water cost just under $7 to buy – that is daylight robbery when you think about the markup they are charging on this water. They have no labour costs to worry about, so how do they justify their outrageous prices? They just don’t care about us the consumers. I will repeat what I said, cities are for human beings. If we allow big companies to rip us off and denude our shops and recreational outlets of human beings, we are letting them destroy our cities with their profiteering and machines.

The AI Takeover

The AI revolution is more akin to a corporate takeover than anything else. Big money interests are deciding on your behalf what modern life is going to be like. AI and automation are replacing human beings and taking our jobs. If you look at the stock market all the top stocks are AI driven. That does not mean that it is good news for the economy, not if you include the billions of people who don’t bet big on the stockmarket. We have this strange elitist view of the economy featuring on the news, where the investments of wealthy individuals and corporations are held up as a display of what the economy is doing. In reality, 95% of the world’s population do not invest in these markets. Too bad for them, seems to be the thinking behind this.

Big Tech & Trump The Golf Cheat

In the United States, where the magnificent 7 AI Big Tech companies are domiciled, there are no grownups running the country currently. A chaotic, revenge inspired Trump regime is making a meal of a once dominate economy. Trump has promised no regulation to his Big Tech billionaire backers on the AI matter. America is in the grip of a deranged octogenarian hell bent on shocking everyone every 15 minutes. Donald Trump is an infamous golf cheat, who plays his version of the game as often as he can. Rules are for losers in his book. Stop and have a think about the ramifications of no regulation being the basis for the AI Armageddon. It has begun already with tech companies shedding hundreds of thousands of jobs. Giant data centres are being built at rapid rates to feed the demands of all those Chat GPT bots and its legions of AI competitors. Human beings have brilliant brains but we are scrapping them. The PR messaging tells us that machines are better. This is not true by any means, but controlling the narrative is what it is all about. Trillions of dollars have been invested in AI and these companies want returns on their investments big time. We are being sold digital tools that are not as good as the brains we already possess. This is not really artificial intelligence, as they have not reached sentience. This is just another scam perpetuated on a massive scale. The story of computers has had one recognisable thread running through it since the advent of PCs back in the day. Automated machines released to the public that were not quite ready. AI continues this digital tradition.

Human brains are brilliant but Big Tech is selling us second rate machine intelligence!

Who Knew That Human Beings Were Important To Our Way Of Life?

The AI transition will be like a bad golf swing. As the millions of job losses mount up around the place. And as our cities become ghost towns inhabited by machines and robots. We will ask ourselves how we could have hit such bad shots and made such god awful swings. I mean, our intention was to make things so much more convenient and efficient. Who was to know that human beings were so important to our way of life? Hitting from the top is a sin in golf. Perhaps, we will discover that making these AI decisions from the CEO and board level end up producing similarly bad outcomes for people. They obviously need reminding that life is about the people. Investments are mere financial tools, supposedly to make lives better, not worse. The truth is that a small section of people are so concerned with making money that they have lost sight of the big picture. These people have become so used to trampling upon the lives of others to get where they want.

The AI transition will be like a bad golf swing. The correction to this will not be as easy as going to see a golf coach. The disruption and damage to the lives of many millions of human beings will be a far greater tragedy. America is already in the hands of an old rich man, who has little to no respect for the lives of the working poor. These politicians and CEOs live in gilded worlds and pat each other on the back on a daily basis. The Epstein class are an elite subsection of society who are always ready to prey upon and profit from the ill informed and powerless. Many white collar workers will soon have more time for golf but, perhaps not the funds to sustain their love of the game.
