I Just Want To Watch The Game

Big boofy blokes on the tele, telling me loudly that they know stuff. Mansplaining their expert opinions throughout the game until I have had enough and turn the sound down to escape them. I remember a time when commentators used to actually call the game. Now, it appears that they get paid by the word uttered and never shut the fuck up. Hands up who is sick of being lectured to by  ex-footy players? I just want to watch the game. I don’t want to do a PhD in BS about football. Fox Footy are the worst offenders. David King and Jack Riewoldt spend hours justifying their own opinions instead of calling the bloody game.

How About Calling The Game, Instead Of Lecturing Us?

Watching footy used to be a joy and now it’s a chore, thanks to these loud mouthed rubbish commentators. Here is a bit of advice boys. SHUT THE FUCK UP! Why not think about a quiet retirement a long way from any TV studio? More than half the bloody time these ‘so-called’ experts are just plain wrong. Recently, I saw a heading for one of their segments entitled ‘Can You Trust Them?’ It was directed at the footy team that had just lost a final but it should have been hung around their own necks. More and more, I am turning the volume right down to escape their commentary. Only shame is I have to miss out on the sound of the crowd enjoying the match.

“I find most TV sports announcers to be annoying. Why must they use every second between plays to share their opinions about why a particular play was called or why a particular pitch was thrown? “

Sham Footy Experts Ruining The Game We Love

Why do we, the fans, have to put up with these free loading ‘has-beens’ cashing in on the game we love? The whole industry copies the Americans and they consider any sliver of silence a sin. Filling up every iota of space with wall to wall verbal diarrhoea. Big boofy blokes pinch the insights from Champion Data and serve it up to us like reheated fish fingers for the third time, minus the sauce.  Whatever the story, their approach is say it loudly and emphatically. Beat it into the brains of the poor viewer. Stop commentating like you used to play footy – it is a different medium, boys.

Has-Beens Stand Down For The Good Of The Game

I just want to watch the game, I don’t want to be berated by a bunch of loud mouthed boors. AFL is a great spectacle and it does not need your verbal assaults on our hearing sense. Let the game speak for itself, as it has much more to say than your limited brain can comprehend. Has-beens stand down for the good of the game.

The Black Fellas Are Thin On The Ground

“You may or may not have noticed a dearth of Indigenous footy players running around in the current crop of AFL players. Indeed, you may be aware of the absence of star players like Bobby Hill from Collingwood and Tyson Stengle from the Cats. Then, there is the long running Jamarra Ugle-Hagan saga, which stretched from the Western Bulldogs to the Gold Coast Suns. What do these three things have in common? They all involve Aboriginal AFL players who were or are on lucrative long term contracts with their clubs not playing or training as required. The Aboriginal footballer problem in the AFL.”
