Songs For Golf

Have you ever hummed a few tunes whilst playing golf? I have found that it can help with maintaining a good swing tempo throughout the round. There is music in them moves necessary to play golf, you just have to find it. Of course, a lot of popular tunes come with lyrics and this is where the fun starts. If you begin thinking about applicable words that match with your golfing a whole universe of possibilities opens up. So, here are a few of my favourites to keep the topic humming along. Songs for golf and words worth swinging along to on any given Saturday, Sunday, and golf day ending in ‘y’.

Whelmed By The Open

It is the last major of the year and I am just whelmed by The Open championship. It hasn’t been an overwhelming experience by any measure but, honestly, neither am I underwhelmed by it. Whelmed is about the extent of it, so far, at any rate. We have a wee chap by the name of Brian Harman, who, apparently, likes to relax by shooting Bambi, with a 5 stroke lead going into Sunday. The great British hopes are being cheered like conquering heroes but cannot make birdies. Rory is attracting the fans like a white Tiger but all the roars are sadly empty of any meaning on the score board.

Open Thoughts Of Golf

The British Open is at Hoylake but you must call it The Open. Looking at this year’s edition of the championship you can see that they have saved a lot of money on trees. Big crowds turn out for this golfing classic on the calendar. Royal Liverpool looks in good nick and the weather has been surprisingly fine for a British Open (sorry Open Championship). Dale Hayes, the South African golf commentator, made me smile when he described New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox’s speed of play like someone being chased by a policeman. A quick game is a good game in my book. Open thoughts of golf can do your head in.

81 Human Beings Executed in 1 Day in Saudi Arabia

4 4 mins 2 yrs

The next time you watch a golf tournament being played in Saudi Arabia, remember this. Remember the 81 human beings executed in 1 day in Saudi Arabia. Hey Greg Norman, the face of golf in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, maybe you need to consider this too. It is not always about money folks; the lives of ordinary people matter too. The come back might be that some of those executed were terrorists. The justice system in Saudi Arabia, however, is compromised and corrupt. Would you want to take the risk of being detained in this country for something that you did not do? Ask yourself this question.

Cameron Smith is the 2022 Players Champion

The Australian flag is flying over the clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra, Florida. Cameron Smith is the 2022 Players Champion, winning the richest event on the PGA tour. What a putting performance by the young Aussie! An amazing final round saw Cam make plenty of birdies (10), shooting 66. He bogied the last hole and still hung on to claim victory over Anirban Lahiri. This was no walk in the park, however. Winning this event on this treacherous course is no small achievement. This is his 5th victory on the PGA tour.

GolfDom Stands with Ukraine

The game of golf, generally, stands apart from politics, as it focuses on a narrower field of play. However, Russia’s invasion of a sovereign nation compels me to say that – GolfDom stands with Ukraine. We fly the blue and gold flag in support of the underdog in this unwarranted war by a bullying Russia and Vladimir Putin. I am sure that golfers around the globe wish for Russia to withdraw from Ukraine and get the hell out of someone else’s country. Killing women and children by blowing them up with missiles and artillery is sickening in this day and age.

When Wet Weather Woes Wash Out Golf

When the floodgates open and the skies send forth a deluge it is not ideal weather for playing golf. In fact, in many instances golf courses are closed for play due to water damage. Those of us who live for the white ball game can find themselves locked out from the green cathedral, whilst it recovers from the soaking. Twiddling one’s thumbs at home can be frustrating when the spirit longs to stride the fairways. There are sometimes opportunities to volunteer to help the course recover if you are a member of a golf club. This is a good thing to do when wet weather woes wash out golf.

Why Golf Is The Greatest Game

There are a lot of reasons why golf is the greatest game and some of them may be uniquely personal. However, there are, also, many shared experiences which determine why the game of golf captures our hearts and souls. In this brief foray I hope to identify a few of the major candidates for golf’s possession of our favour. I always think back to my early outings on a golf course to discover the original sin.

Why Many Men Don’t Read Books

A lot of men don’t read books because they don’t want anyone else inside their head. Books and written material are sneaky like that, they start up arguments abut stuff and try to convince you. If you don’t let them in to begin with, you haven’t any worries on that score. Books can be a bad business.

Greed in Golf is Threatening This Great Game

Tuning in to the golfosphere I am struck by the materialistic mania, which hovers around the top end of the tours. The American obsession with excessive consumption in all its manifestations is all too prevalent. The lives of the rich and fatuous are an adolescent obsession, with their focus on bloated  mansions, fast cars, big boats, and trophy wives. Elite golfers are painted as celebrity success stories leading perfect lives. Of course, anyone with any sense knows that these are fantasy projections. In life you develop new problems to go with your new lifestyle, everything is relative to wherever you are. Scratch a little deeper and you find human beings going about their business. Greed in golf is threatening this great game, with its excessive focus on money everywhere you look.
