We live in a time of the ‘culture wars’, where folk get so caught up in identity politics that they lose the plot. Why voters vote against their own interests? Stupid is as stupid does, I suppose. Many Trump supporters, especially in red states, are going to be adversely affected by the slashing of Obamacare and SNAP benefits. The billionaire first economic policies of the Trump administration will hurt millions of poorer Americans. I don’t know if you can eat your white supremacist and anti-immigration views but some folk are probably going to have to, to get by.
On Benefits But Calling For An End To Governments
In Australia, quite a few Sovereign Citizens are receiving government assistance in one form or another. These folk express virulent antigovernment views whenever they can. Hypocritical? One hand not knowing what the other hand is doing? Who knows, perhaps, a number of flag waving Neo-Nazi types are also in this camp, taking welfare whilst demanding a whiter Australia. These folk do not let their pragmatic realities get in the way of espousing their ideals. Why voters vote against their own interests?
Robots Welcome, Immigrants Not!
I saw an interesting headline from the Aussie born US economist Justin Wolfers. ‘Robots Welcome, Immigrants Not” or something thereabouts. The MAGA faithful and the white supremacist lot downunder are passionate about punching down on immigrants. Those folk further down the food chain are weaker, soft targets. They have less to say about the billionaires and their promotion of AI, which will be taking their jobs and livelihoods. Angry men are less ready to take on the powerful and the wealthy, I find. They are so easily manipulated by the powers that be pulling the financial strings. It is not governments that are shafting the middle class but big business, as it always does. Governments may , also, do the bidding of Big Tech but they are useful idiots and not the driving force.
Racists & White Supremacist Are Useful Idiots
Falling back on your pet hates, those prejudices that you may have grown up with, are not going to pull humanity out of this tailspin. Hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs to AI, which will exponentially increase to many millions. All so companies can increase their share price. Thus, we are witnessing the economic sacrifice of the many, so that the few can profit. I wonder when the angry people will wake up and direct their ire at the real culprits, instead of at those with brown skin? Bullies, I find, are usually little men happy to follow orders from on nie. The marching minions wrapped in national flags. These folk are being manipulated by the oligarchs like Elon Musk, who are always happy to stir up racist shit online. It deflects from the real game and those stealing our lunch. Deflection and distraction, which, also, undermines liberal democracies. Fear and paranoia fuelled by carefully orchestrated racial hate.
