Maybe the Gold Coast might have defeated the Greater Western Sydney Giants if they hadn’t been wearing West Coast’s jumper? The strange decision to don an away strip of blue and yellow did not do them any favours in the minds of many viewers. The Suns have never won at the Western Sydney home ground of the GWS. Suns just cannot beat Giants in expansion club’s battle. It was a darn good match fought out by two sides determined to get the 4 points and stay in the 8.
FT: GWS 16.10 (106) defeat Gold Coast 14.15 (99)

Gold Coast looked like Eagles
AFL G Spot Contest Won By GWS Over GC, Again
Did the Gold Coast get confused about which Coast team they actually were? Perhaps West Coast have been going so badly for so long that sides are coming for their colours and AFL strip? The Suns killed the Giants out of the middle but could not kick accurately when it really mattered. Gold Coast won the inside 50m count by +20 and still managed to lose the match. It would have been a frustrating afternoon for coach Damien Hardwick. Such is life at the footy, however, for fans and those in the game.

Inaccurate Suns Pay The Price Against Giants
Suns just cannot beat Giants in expansion club’s battle. Inaccuracy in AFL is a curse and most often costs side’s games. There was a lot to like about the efforts of Rowell, Witts, Miller and Anderson. On the GWS ledger Toby Greene was a match winner and Jake Stringer popped up in the final term with 2 important goals. It was a high class game between 2 legitimate contenders for final’s berths in 2025. The match was marred by inconsistent umpiring, which has become a regular feature of AFL games in season 2025. The number of decisions which have huge impact on the result of matches and befuddle players, fans and commentators continues. The interpretation of holding the ball infractions, rucking infringements and insufficient intent to keep the ball in play calls are so arbitrary as to enrage supporters and players on a regular basis.
“The smarty pants ex-players on the rules committee have stuffed the game of AFL. Manipulated AFL rules ruining games each week. These new rules rely so heavily on umpire interpretation that the current players have no idea WTF is going on. The stand on the mark rule, for instance, has such vagaries of application during a game with 4 field umpires individually interpreting whether a player on the mark is back 5 metres or has to freeze on the exact mark – that it is a bad joke. Factor in that during big games the players cannot hear the umpires because of the crowd noise it is beyond stupid and arcane expecting that they can.”
