After another fine round of golf spoiled on the last hole by an errant tee shot and the calamity that followed I wondered about the odds. Playing the percentages: The mathematics of golf might be the way to approach this issue. It is all too common to observe this kind of thing happening to competitive golfers. My playing partner Craig did the same thing last week stuffing up a good score on the final hole. Mito Pereira did it on the 72nd hole of a major at the US PGA Championship in 2022 at Southern Hills. Sahith Theegala did it this morning at the Travelers in Connecticut.

Watching The Memorial at Jack’s place on Saturday from the comfort of my living room I was suitably impressed to hear Jack Nicklaus name Cam Smith the greatest chipper he has ever seen. Praise does not come any richer than this from golf’s all time greatest major winner. Australia’s Cameron Smith is now being recognised as one of the leading players in the world of golf. In a season where he won the Players’ and the Tournament of Champions, he would normally be player of the year. However Scottie Scheffler has won 5 times, including a major at the masters.

Day 2 At The Masters

They say a day is a long time in golf. Day 2 at the Masters for Cameron Smith proved that saying. Smith putted like a blindman on Friday, with apologies to the visually impaired. The young man who made 8 birdies on Thursday could not find the hole it seemed. Commentators told us that it was windy out on the course and challenging conditions for the competitors. Scottie Scheffler, the new number one golfer, soon established a 3 shot lead for much of the second day. The coverage was extremely Tiger focused, as we watched Tiger struggle and then fightback to stay in touch with the leaderboard.

OMG the sky is going to fall in. In this partisan realm complaints about there being too many coloured faces on TV and LGBTQIA folk making too much noise are legion. Uppity women talking about sexual harassment and such like make their viewer’s blood boil – which is the whole idea for Fox. Getting their audience riled up keeps eyeballs on them and advertising rates going up for their revenue.Popularizing Poisonous Issues For Political GainThe politics of grievance is all about popularizing these causes for the benefit of candidates and the party. The party promoting these grievances doesn’t need positive policies. They just bang on about how the other side is to blame for the problem.
