The Memorial Tournament is on again, which is one of the toughest challenges on the PGA tour. Jack Nicklaus host and designer of Muirfield Village golf course has massaged and remoulded this championship layout for this year’s event. Mister Nicklaus has pushed all out for design perfection, quite likely for the last time. The competing players love this tournament for Jack and because it is such a fine test of golf at the highest level. The world’s best are here again and all are searching for a victory. Inclement weather has failed to dampen Jack’s memorable machinations at Memorial.

Collin Morikawa Leads at Rain Interrupted First Round

Collin Morikawa, who commentators call the best ball striker in the business, managed to hold the clubhouse lead after a 6 under round of 66. However, many players were unable to complete their opening rounds due to play being suspended for lightning and dangerous weather. Adam Long sits in second at 5 under par. Xander Schauffele is third at 4 under, as is Bo Hoag, Nick Taylor, and Rafa Cabrera Bello. Shane Lowry is at 3 under, along with Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler, Brendan Steele, and Max Homa. A bunch of players will complete their first-round tomorrow morning, prior to playing their second round.

Crowds Back at the Memorial

Crowds lined the fairways at the new remodelled Memorial, and it seems like a real tournament with fans back. Dublin, Ohio is the scene for a celebration of classic championship golf with the game’s greatest exponent as host. Jack Nicklaus will not be with us forever and it is fitting that the world’s best come together at Jack’s place for a fantastic golf tournament. Apparently, the players swoon over the milkshakes at Jack’s place. The weather forecast for the rest of the week looks fine and things will be hotting up.

Jon Rahm, said of Jack’s redesign of Muirfield Village, “I do think the redesign has made it a better golf course, but more difficult. I do think the par 5s – 5 and 7- are way more difficult now than they were last year. Jack Nicklaus himself has claimed that the course remodelling may make it easier for the competing professionals. The jury is still out on this and we will see the resulting scores post Memorial. Jack’s memorable machinations at Memorial, will they deliver lower or higher scores?
