When Your Golf Game Deserts You

Many of us have walked in the valley of the death of our game at times during our golfing lives. When your golf game deserts you it is not a nice feeling. Of course, as Stoics we all know that we are not our feelings, well not only our feelings. To play golf for any length of time we must have a certain degree of resolve. There are good times and bad times, even, within a round of golf, let alone over a season. Marcus Aurelius led Roman soldiers in battles over a lifetime and his messages in his Meditations call upon the fortitude necessary to survive and thrive in these circumstances. Golf in the heat of competitive battle can be like this.

The LIV golf controversy has captured the attention of many golfers around the globe. Most of us are onlookers from social golf and clubland. The fans of professional tournament golf are enamoured of their golfing heroes. They know their names and have watched them play some amazing golf via TV coverage of championships. What the fans don’t know or understand is the business of professional tournament golf. We all wish we could play golf like Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, and Rory McIlroy but we do not comprehend the reality of making a living from playing golf.

Why Do Entertainers & Rockstars Love the Game of Golf?

Golf was a game played by robotic old men at country clubs in the suburbs. This was my impression of the game when I was growing up. I loved footy, the big hits, the high marks, and the fast pace of play. Golf was not on my radar. I was into Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, and hard passionate rock music. I painted my entire bedroom black with one feature wall covered in tin foil. Now, I am older and my former heroes, those wild men of pop, play golf. Why do entertainers and rockstars love the game of golf?

OMG the sky is going to fall in. In this partisan realm complaints about there being too many coloured faces on TV and LGBTQIA folk making too much noise are legion. Uppity women talking about sexual harassment and such like make their viewer’s blood boil – which is the whole idea for Fox. Getting their audience riled up keeps eyeballs on them and advertising rates going up for their revenue.Popularizing Poisonous Issues For Political GainThe politics of grievance is all about popularizing these causes for the benefit of candidates and the party. The party promoting these grievances doesn’t need positive policies. They just bang on about how the other side is to blame for the problem.
