I have to share something with you that I don’t commonly mention to most. It is not something that I think a great deal about. It is a mere fact and there is nothing much I can do about it. It is a quirk of fate I suppose and whether it has any real meaning, we will have to wait and see. If you yourself had this fateful coincidence I am sure that you would feel similarly betwixt any conclusive judgement about its nature. For example, if you were told that you shared a defining feature with a member of the royal family you may keep it under your hat, so to speak, mostly anyway. Funnily enough things like this are small beer really in the larger scheme of things. I mean a man or woman is master or mistress of his or her own destiny in the twenty first century, I reckon. This modern age we all live in is jam packed with high tech devices telling us what’s what and what’s not. The scientific reality of our existence is alive with ever more detail, especially in the biological sphere. DNA? Have you ever tried to delve into this realm and make sense of its complexities? Someone can easily drown in the level of detail expounded in the study of genetics and its biological consequences.

Walking in the Footsteps of an Immortal

I make this confession with a humble heart and do not look for any undeserved kudos. In my book we must all row our own boat. Life is a hard taskmaster in many instances. You cannot not put in the work and expect results. Just because you might share something with a force of nature it does not necessarily mean a free lunch. I suppose one of the reasons why I shy away from sharing this fact with others more readily is on this basis. One cannot walk in the footsteps of greatness but must make one’s own way.

William Blake, the author of this poem, may have missed out on seeing Tiger Woods but his written words may prove his prophetic powers. The game of golf has been changed forever via the striped superstar with the bright smile. The fact that I share a birthday with the Tiger may have marked me forever.
